Higher Court rejects appeal of Ms Joy to recognize her as Christian in Malaysia.

Malaysia: May 30, 2007. The Civil law and Sharia law in Malaysia were intact after independence of Malaysia from British Colonial rule but Civil law suddenly collapsed today

and directed a Muslim Convert woman to contact Sharia Courts to decide her appeal to remove Islam from her identity card. Malaysia is Muslim majority country and Sharia laws deal with their personnel laws but Hindu, Buddhist and Christian minorities are dealt with Civil laws. Ms Lina Joy who was Azlina Jailani converted to Christianity six years ago and she was forced to quit job. Ms. Joy filed appeal to include Christianity in her identity card instead of Islam but her appeals were dismissed in lower courts. This was her last chance of appeal but Supreme Court of Malaysia also rejected her appeal. Joy is in hiding from years on threats of life from Muslim groups.
