Christian families fleeing from Charsadda after threats of “Convert to Islam or Die:”

Peshawar: May 18, 2007. The Christian families of Charsadda are getting refuge in city of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province of Pakistan, with their relatives for safety of their life after deadline of May 17, by Pakistani Taliban

The claims made in press conference by some Christian leaders "That instead of this threat, Christians shall remain in Charsadda" seemed less to satisfy feared Christian families of this remote town bordering tribal belt of Waziristan. About 50 to 60 Christian families settled here and mostly engaged in jobs with Charsadda Muncipal Committee have migrated from Punjab province of Pakistan or have converted to Christianity from untouchable Hindu cast from decades. PCP sources learned that Christian women and children of most of the families have fled from Charsadda and only few men have remained in homes. The government assured Christian religious leaders that necessary measures shall be adopted for safety of life and property of Charsadda Christians but residents are under fear after suicide attacks in this city in rally of Interior Minister of Pakistan, killing 32 people in April, 2007. The Interior Minister is also resident of Charsadda and leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (S).
