India: Two Missionaries Dragged and Beaten in Kasipur

New Delhi, September 29, 2006. Two Christians from Full Gospel Pentecost were dragged out from Christian prayer gathering by Hindu militants in Kasipur, Uttranchal on September 24, 2006 and beaten leaving server injury.

Salvin from Tamil Nadu and Simon from West Bengal are two young Christians residing in Kasipur for last eight months involve in preaching of the gospel. "In their rented house met with 20 members of Christian communities for prayer on September 24, 2006, where the activists of Bajrang Dal brought groups 50 activists and dragged both Salvin and Simon out to local police station and left them with severe beating," Pastor I. Vinil Sathish report to All India Christian Council. They were taken to local hospital by police and done the medical investigation. Salvin and Simon has been charged of hurting religious sentimental hurt as per as section of IPC 298, which Ms. Saryu – a Christian member from Kasipur terms it false allegation level against them. According to the information reached to Christian council, Ms. Saryu with the help of the house owner where Salvin and Simon are staying has registered a counter FIR (344/06) against those fanatics with sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) 197, 148, 351, 452, 323 and 506. No arrest has taken place till the filing of this report. Mr. G. C. Tamta – local Police OC said to Christian Council that action will be taken soon and culprits will be punished as per the provision of the law. The tiny Christian communities of Kasipur living in fear from what religious fanatics will do to them. Pastor Prabhakar reports to Christian Council to seek the possibility of compromising with religious fanatic. However compromises never bring any solution in many of the cases of Christian attacks in India. More over Mr. Tamta confirms that he will not entertain any compromise rather act accordingly. All India Christian Council condemns barbaric crimes against minority communities of India by religious fanatics.
