KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: A villager has found two grenades near a church, some 200 meters from the East Nusa Tenggara Police dormitory in Kupang on Saturday.
The grenades, wrapped in a plastic bag, were found near villager Agus Djami`s house in Naikoten I subdistrict, near the WHAT CHURCH.
Agus said he first noticed the grenades Thursday but initially did not realize they were explosives.
"I thought they were fallen coconuts and I just ignored them. But when I examined them later, I realized they were grenades and immediately reported them to the police," he said.
Chief of the police paramilitary bomb squad, Adj. Comr. Denis Leihitu, said officers were carefully examining the grenades to see if they were still active.
He said the armaments could have been placed in the area to intimidate rather than hurt people.-- JP
