Nayyar was walking to his house in Canal Park near Punjab chief ministers house after recording songs at 2am on February 16 night, after he was dropped by a friend on the main road. It was then that five or six unidentified young men, some of them wearing bandannas, stopped him, stole his money and after recognizing him, beat him up and then asked him to recite the Kalima, When people came out of their houses, hearing the commotion, the miscreants ran away, leaving Nayyar injured. Nayyars wife said they wanted to report the incident to the police and the singer would visit the police station today, adding that she believed the attack could be linked to the recent protests against the controversial cartoons of Prophet Mohammed. The incident has now frightened the minorities in Pakistan who are now disturbed that the countrys minuscule Christian population may now face more hostility from the people, reports the Daily Times. They probably were harmless local criminals because if they were serious outlaws they would have done much more, said Waseem Muntazir, Nayyars friend.
