Lahore; October 4, 2005. While the enraged Christian community feels teammates' pressure made Pakistani cricketer Yousuf Youhana convert to Mohammed Yousuf, the cricketer said he embraced Islam after a dream in which one of his friends had asked him

The former vice-captain attended a religious gathering in Karachi on Sunday night, along with skipper Inzamam-ul Haq and during his speech, he refuted charges that he had buckled under pressure from fellow cricketers. ''Nobody pressurised me to accept Islam. I became a Muslim after attending many religious gatherings at Raiwind. Whenever I went there I used to meet a 96-year-old Haji who impressed me a lot,'' he said. On his decision to convert, Youhana said in his earlier days his roommate used to do special rituals for him and read from the Holy Quran before matches. ''And the next day I used to score big. He was my roommate and his act impressed me a lot. I started taking interest in Islam. One day I had dream that my same friend was asking me to accept Islam,'' he recalled. Meanwhile, though his conversion did not go down well with his own family, Yousuf said he was leading a peaceful life and was learning Arabic, besides reciting the Holy Quran. ''In the Pakistan team, Inzamam supported me a lot. I have visited Raiwind with Inzamam and Saeed Anwar many a time. I cannot tell you what a great feeling it is for me after becoming a Muslim,'' he said.
