Sheikhupura. August 25, 2004. The Pakistan Day is being observed on August 14 every year to celebrate Independence Day of Pakistan from British colonial rule on august 14, 1947. Muslims, Christians and other communities in Pakistan celebrate this da

The B Division Police picked Nasir Masih from celebrations to police station on suspicion of one-theft charges and put him on third degree torture that he became unconscious. He was handed over to Saddar police station and harshly tortured for more two days for confession for theft, which he never committed. On his continuous denial he was tied up with fan and baton charged by five constables. Nasir Masih was presented in courts of area magistrate on August 16 for remand but he was sent to jail instead of any medical help. The family of Nasir Masih was searching him among relatives and friends when he was fighting for life in jail. Nasir Masih was refused to be hospitalized in jail and put in general ward where he died on August 19, 2004. The family of Nasir Masih was informed of death by district jail seikhupura authorities. The mother of Nasir Masih was stunned on the death news as his son was regular worker in local municipal corporation and supporter of family. The neighbors and friends of Nasir Masih told SLMP team that he was hardworking honest Christian. It’s doubted that he became victim of police brutality when he was stopped and demanded money, which is usual crime among police to harass citizen and empty their pockets in Pakistan. When police came to know that Nasir Masih is Christian and do not have money for their routine collection they wickedly planned to tie rope around his neck of some theft case registered in B Division Police jurisdiction against unknown thieves. The local Christians leaders pressed for the post mortem of body when witnessed 21 injuries on dead body in hospital. The Christians of seikhupura demanded registration of murder case against Police, which ignited the police administration, and Christians were baton charged by police. The police arrested 250 Christian under section 16MPO who were bailed out on August 21. The situation is very tense in Seikhupura and poor Christians are in hiding from fear of police arrests and brutality. It’s on record that Pakistani police treats Christians as animals and police murdered one Christian in hospital who was arrested under blasphemy laws in Lahore few months back. Nasir Masih is like many other Christians who are punished in Pakistan to vote for existence of Pakistan and favor Pakistan Movement. The Independence Day proved to be D Day for Nasir Masih like millions of other oppressed Pakistani Christians who are not dead but living like slaves and worst then dead.
