Karachi: November 11, 2010. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have strongly condemned decision of Government of Pakistan to dissolve Federal Minority Ministry

and to shift it to provinces under devolution process in light of 18th Amendment. The Federal Minority Ministry was part of Religious Affair Ministry in Federation of Pakistan since 1947, independence of Pakistan, established as “Ministry of Religious and Minority Affair” but in 1985, Minority Affair Ministry was allocated an independent portfolio having Cabinet Division representation in Federal government of Pakistan. The Provincial Governments of Sindh, Balochistan, NWFP and Punjab had Minority Ministries since 1973, and provincial governments were nominating parliamentarians from Christian, Hindu, Sikh, and Parsi communities as Provincial Ministers of Minority affairs. The Minority Affair Ministry in federation of Pakistan was formed after long struggle of millions of Christians as token of acceptance of identity and presence of religious communities in Pakistan which shall be denied by recent decision of government. Dr. Nazir Bhatti said that whenever there is rule of Pakistan Peoples Party PPP in Pakistan, the Christian community is targeted, like PPP government led by ZA Bhutto, took over our Schools, Colleges and Hospitals. ZA Bhutto not spared even Sunday holiday but announced Friday as weekly holiday to target Christians. Now present PPP regime is taking our identity Federal Minority Ministry which have spread concerns among 20 million Pakistani Christians. “The decision to abolish Ministry of Minority Affairs was taken in Cabinet meeting in which a Christian Shahbaz Bhatti was present as Federal Minister for Minorities but we do not find his protest on record which is very unfortunate for Pakistani Christians” said Nazir Bhatti Nazir Bhatti added “Shahbaz Bhatti, Federal Minister for Minorities was claiming from two years that he will revise blasphemy law but instead of abolishing blasphemy law, he took part in Cabinet session where Minority Ministry was abolished” We warn government of Pakistan to refrain from abolishing Federal Minority Ministry because it is symbol of presence of millions of Christians in Pakistan and we will be forced to act rightly if our way is blocked in federation of Pakistan, commented Nazir S Bhatti Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have always demanded due share in resources of federation of Pakistan and Minority Ministry was one part of it but it seems that government of Pakistan wants to crush national identity of Christians to turn them 3rd class citizen from 2nd class citizen when already they are denied equal basic democratic rights in Pakistan. Nazir S Bhatti, urged 20 million Pakistani Christians to launch social boycott of Shahbaz Bhatti, Federal Minority Minister who bargained to abolish Federal Minority Ministry for his vested interests. PCC Chief warned that countrywide protest shall be launched against government if decision to abolish Minority Ministry is not withdrawn.
