ISLAMABAD: July 4, 2010. (Interview by Qaswar Abbas) Sitting in a revolving chair in his well furnished air-conditioned office, Federal Minister for minority Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti

was looking very much confident and contented. However, one wonders to see a man as custodian of Ministry of Minorities Affairs who has been publicly announcing for years to not to accept any seat in government. Exclusively talking to Pakistan Christian Post, he Mr Bhatti, so called leaders of Pakistani Christians, revealed that he never stated to not to be a part of any government. “I have never announced to not to accept any seat in government,,” said Shahbaz Bhatti when asked by PCP, what made him to be a federal Minister even he announced addressing a rally in premises of Minar-i-Pakistan that he will never accept any government seat. Look sir! Such statement has wrongly been attributed to me in a bid to defame my repute, said Shahbaz adding that he has been associated with Pakistan Peoples Party for 20 years and that it was the PPP which made him to hold office of Ministry of Minorities Affairs. However, Shahbaz Bhatti--- Federal Minister of Minorities Affairs admitted that he was recruited as a President of CLF by Bishop John Joseph of Catholic Dioceses of Faisalabad who formed Christian Liberation Front for the betterment of Christian Community. The CLF has been organizing a number of functions, press conferences and seminars arranged in three, four and five stars hotels across the country. When asked by the PCP, who was funding these press conferences and seminars? Mr Shahbaz become silent for a few seconds, however, named a few organizations as a source of funding including ‘Justice and Peace”. When asked if CLF was cause of death of Bishop John Joseph as administration of CLF drained funds of Dioceses? Minister for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti suddenly loose temper and accused this correspondent of playing in the hands of someone. However, the confused Minister did not reveal the name of person to whom he was referring to. “ Such questions show that you have been feed by someone who want to defame my repute,” said Mr Shahbaz Bhatti---Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs. However, insisted by this correspondent to answer the question, Minister said John Bishop committed suicide as he was disappointed and dejected by the government on Blasphemy laws. “Harassment of Christians in the hands of draconian Blasphemy laws made Bishop John Joseph to commit suicide,” said Shahbaz Bhatti. When asked if the establishment formed APMA, Bhatti politely replied that APMA was idea of some of his friend and that there was no role of establishment or the intelligence agencies its constitution. Bhatti remained tight lipped and felt uneasy when asked to comment that his brother in Canada claimed in drawing room meetings that he bought his brother (Shahbaz Bhatti) National Assembly seat from PPP for one million. “Look sir! My brother can never utter such a statement and beyond that I have nothing to say,” said Bhatti. When asked if he ever demanded plots and jeep from Evacuee property Chairman. Bhatti went on saying that there was no realty in such reports and that these were allegations just. Regarding his work and contributions to Minorities, especially to the Christian community, Bhatti told PCP that a committee consisting of Muslim scholars, Christians and others has been constituted and that there was hop to repeal draconian Blasphemy laws.
