Philadelphia: May 4, 2010. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC said that news item appeared in Pakistani press with reference to a letter from Senator Robert P Casey Junior, Senator Benjamin Cordon and Senator Sam

to President Asif Ali Zardari and Premier Yousaf Gillani expressing satisfaction on situation of minorities in Pakistan have surprised millions of Christians in Pakistan who are victimized, persecuted and treated like 2nd class citizens in Pakistan. Nazir Bhatti said that statement regarding Senator Robert Casey, Senator Benjamin Cordon and Senator Sam Brown is issued in crucial time of minorities in Pakistan when violence against religious minorities is at peak. The Christian women are gang raped and enforcedly converted by influential Muslims. The Churches have been burnt down and hundreds of homes destroyed by Muslim mobs. There are more arrests of Christians under blasphemy laws comparing to previous regimes. Nazir Bhatti said “Pakistani Christians are deprived of their basic equal democratic rights and voting right to elect their representation is snatched from them with imposition of Joint Electorate and hundreds of petitions by Christian organizations and PCC to US Administration have been submitted to press upon government of Pakistan to award Dual Voting rights to minorities” “The publication of statement in reference to US Senators is more surprising when US Commission for International Religious Freedom have listed Pakistan in 13 countries of concern on religious freedom in its annual report of 2010, while US Commission expresses grave concern on situation of religious minorities in Pakistan” added Nazir Bhatti The situation of Christian minorities in Islamic countries have worsen during President Obama administration when violence against Coptic Christians in Egypt, Christians and Hindus in Pakistan and Christian in Iraq have been at rise. Nazir S Bhatti said “The representation in Senate of Pakistan for minorities in not proportional to population nor seats in National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies have been raised which must be in notice of US administration and letter of US Senators to President and Prime Minster of Pakistan is contrary to US International Commission on Religious Freedom report” Pakistan Christian Congress PCC wishes to clarify and brings again in notice of US Home Department, US Senators and US Administration that Christians are victim of violence and persecution under blasphemy law and appeal US to press upon government of Pakistan to repeal blasphemy law and equal voting rights to elect their representation in parliament instead of selection by Muslim political groups.
