Lahore High Court sets Christian man free from bonded labor.

Lahore: November 21, 2008. (Jawad Mazhar for PCP) A Christian man Shamsher Masih 25, was set free from his cruel Muslim captor Irfan Awan. The ill fortune of the Christian man turned into good fortune, after the Lahore High Court on Monday Nov 17th was told that all the Station House Officers (SHOs) and sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) of the Sheikhupura district have been directed to search their areas and identify the elements involved in getting forced labor from the people. A report submitted by the Sheikhupura district police officer in the court of the Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) said that the police officers had also been directed to keep vigilant eye on such elements and take appropriate and immediate action to eradicate such elements, which are stigma for the Pakistani society. The report was submitted in a Suo Motu proceedings imitated by the Chief Justice LHC on a news item and photograph of chained Christian man Shamsher Masih 25, appeared in a local television Channel. Well placed local Christian sources apprised PCP that a cruel Muslim landlord Irfan Awan of Lahorianwali had chained Shamsher Masih on non-payment of a loan of Pakistani Rupees 40,000.00 (US $ 471.00) and forced him to work in his farms and plantation fields. On the directions of the LHC and local police officers, a police team raided and produced the chained Shamsher Masih and his cruel Muslim captor Irfan Awan before the court. The court set the Christian man free and arrested the Muslim landlord for forcibly keeping Shamsher Masih chained and taking bonded labor from him. The local police of Sheikhupura informed the court and later to the newsmen that a case against the Muslim captor had been registered under section 367 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
