Madonna honours Pope

Italy: September 8, 2008. Madonna dedicated a song to the Pope during her show in Rome this weekend. The pop icon played the latest leg of her "Sticky & Sweet" world tour on Saturday night to 60,000 Italian fans.

She took the opportunity to make an onstage tribute to the Catholic Church, two years after being accused of blasphemy by the Vatican. Before launching into "Like A Virgin", she explained: "I dedicate this song to the pope, because I'm a child of God. All of you are also children of God." Two years ago, Madonna was blasted by the Vatican, after staging a mock-crucifixion during a concert in the city. Religious chiefs branded the "Confessions On A Dancefloor" concert amongst the most "satanic shows in the history of humanity".
