Jacobabad, Pakistan: August 2, 2008. (Jawad Mazhar reports for PCP) August 2nd: On July 27th, Hindu Community of Jacobabad in Pakistan’s Sindh province flocked up in front of Press Club Jacobabad

to protest against the attack on a Hindu Dharam Shalla (Asylum for marginalize Hindu Women) by unidentified Muslim miscreants and demanded their immediate arrest. Extremists ransacked the Dharam Shalla and beat several Hindu Women who were busy in their morning religious rite ‘Satt Sung’ (Hindu ritual) two days back. In this regrettable episode, which took place in a Hindu Sanctuary situated near Shirri Krishan Temple just off the Quaid-E-Azam road in Jacobabad, several Hindu women received critical injuries and some of them were found blood-soaked and left with broken teeth, PCP has learnt through well placed sources. No one has claimed responsibility for the lamentable showdown. Shirrimatti Jharna Kumari, a victim of the sanctuary assault told PCP that every morning at 10:00 AM Satt Sung worship is convened in the sanctuary. Kumari added that on that day 200 impoverished Hindu women were assembled for the Satt Sung in the sanctuary in the mean time unidentified Muslim miscreants ransacked the asylum-house and took several Hindu women hostage. Kumari further added that due to the hues and cries of the women for rescue, miscreants started thrashing them in a barbarian manner. Babbu Mahesh Laal, local elder of the Hindu Community in Jacobabad said talking to PCP that although many days have been passed since the occurrence of this regrettable incident. But Police have arrested none of the culprits. He said that wild assaulters are still at large and roaming freely in the society. Laal further added that all Hindus would observe complete strike until the arrest of attackers. He said whole Hindu community would keep all their shops and other business points shut. Mohan Laal, Sindh’s provincial minister of Religious Affairs flayed the police for its failure in arresting the culprits. He urged the government and appealed to the President, Prime Minister and Governor of Sindh to intervene and ensure that justice is served to the frail women of the Hindu Asylum House. Mohan Laal condemned the lamentable episode. Ferhan Mazher, Chairman of ‘Rays Of Development Organization’, an organization working for the creation of Interfaith Peace and Harmony in the Pakistani Society, condemned the incident and said that Pakistan is a country where people of diverse faith co-exist. Hence, he added, that each one of us and especially the Muslim Majority should learn to respect the beliefs of other people.
