WASHINGTON: November 28, 2007. (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Wednesday urged Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf to end emergency rule before holding elections early next year and welcomed his decision to quit as army chief.

"He told me he would take off his uniform, and I appreciate that he kept his word," Bush said in an interview with CNN. But he added that "in order to get Pakistan back on the road to democracy, he has got to suspend the emergency law before elections."
