Philadelphia: Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, Editor of Pakistan Christian Post and President of Pakistan Christian Congress in a letter to President New York
There is common notion among public and media that Pakistani police is under influence of politician and used as tool to punish opponents instead curbing crime but in reality there are some police officials in Pakistan who are tools of powerful Pakistani establishment and used against innocent politicians. Pakistani politicians witnessed such police tools of establishment who booked Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader and Karachi Mayor-designate Waseem Akhtar in a conspiracy case of May 12, 2007, when series of violent clashes among rival political activists on arrival of the then deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
The so called experienced police officer SSP Rao Anwar kept silent and ignored investigation in incident of May 12, for years but suddenly he dreams that Waseem Akhtar is main accused in killing of more than dozen and announce his arrest. Who are forces which moved his strings to put burden of such incidents on Waseem Akhtar; this act of arrest cannot be claimed act of Rao Anwar because if it was truth then he might have arrested him right after May 12, 2007.
According to Rao Anwar, the MQM leader, who was Sindh Home Minister in 2007, also confessed that he had directed shooting on people gathered to receive Iftikhar Chaudhry outside Karachi airport. It said that MQM chief Altaf Hussain, Waseem Akhtar, Kamran Farooqui and Muhammad Adnan are nominated in the case. An accused Aslam alias Kala was arrested on information of the Karachi mayor-designate, it added.
Over 50 people were killed on May 12, 2007 in gunfights and clashes that erupted in the city after opposition parties which supported the judge and the pro-government political party activists took to the streets against each other.
Pakistani police cannot curb terror and crime until powerful secret agencies and politician use police for their vested interests. Then hundreds of FIR will not be lodged in different police stations of Pakistan against any politician to prevent him to voice against injustice with his community nor will a poor beg to lodge FIR against kidnapping of his daughter.
