Sahiwal, Pakistan: January 18, 2018: The next hearing of peasant’s case registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act is fixed on 23rd January 2018 at Anti-Terrorism Court, Sahiwal.
On April 17, 2016, the leadership of Anjuman Muzareen Punjab (AMP) were protesting against the illegal detention of peasants in different cases launched by district administration in Okara district. The district administration and law & enforcement agencies beaten charge the protesters and registered fabricated cases 370/16 and 374/16 under the Terrorism Act 7ATA, 16MPO, 324/353, 186/148, 144/365, 290/241 PPC against the AMP leadership (More than 100 activists) including Chairman, Secretary, district presidents, group leaders etc. They registered cases to stop the protest and movement of AMP for the freedom of detained members of AMP and right of ownership to land cultivating generation by generation. Their right to peaceful protest aimed at drawing attention to the long struggle for their right to the land they have been cultivating for decades.
Sahiwal Civil Society has expressed serious concern over the administration denying peasants associated with Anjuman Muzareen Punjab (AMP), Okara. They call for the authorities to engage the peasants in constructive talks to find a solution to the prolonged wrangling between the AMP peasants and the military, which claims entitlement to the land of AMP peasants have been tilling for generations. They strongly urges the authorities not to deal with the peasants under the antiterrorism framework and to respect their right to peaceful protest and the freedom of assembly”
