USA: August 7, 2017. (PCP) The American Sikh Council (ASC) (formerly known as World Sikh Council America Region –WSC-AR) is making sure that the death of six Sikh Americans gunned down by a white terrorist while praying at their Gurdwara, is never forgotten. Our nation will observe the fifth anniversary of the attack on the Sikh community of Oak Creek, Wisconsin. On August 5, 2012, a white terrorist entered a Sikh Gurdwara (house of prayer) and murdered six congregants and permanently injured several more. To this day, it remains one of the deadliest acts of violence in an American house of prayer in our nation’s history. Sikhs have always practiced their faith fearlessly even when rabid governments and regimes have persecuted them. It behooves every Sikh American to remind all our neighbors and friends about this solemn day being commemorated to remember the six congregants who were shot in cold blood by a white terrorist inside a Gurdwara in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. We remember Paramjit Kaur Saini, Sita Singh, Ranjit Singh, Prakash Singh, Suveg Singh Khattra, and Satwant Singh Kaleka. We salute the courage and resilience of the critically injured: Punjab Singh, Santokh Singh, and Lt. Brian Murphy. The Oak Creek sangat, must be highly commended in setting an example of being resolute and calm at a time of extreme tragedy. The American Sikh Council (ASC) urges all the Gurdwaras and other Sikh institutions to hold candle light vigils, do a day of sewa in the local community, donate blood, and continue to educate non-Sikh neighbors about the Sikh message of universal equality to spread peace and inclusiveness by our faith founders.
