Bridgewater, NJ; July 1, 2017. (PCP) The entire month of June has been dedicated to the martyrdom of the Sri Guru Arjan Sahib the 5th divine ‘Guru’ who was tortured and killed by the Mughal rulers of the time and also to remember the Indian government’s planned unprovoked attack of the holy Darbar Sahib which killed over 10,000 innocent Sikh civilians over a period of three days in early June 1984. The American Sikh Council (ASC) initiated and collaborated with several member and non-member Gurdwaras across the nation to hold a ‘Blood Drive’ by spreading a message that, ‘we all care for each other’! The enthusiastic members of the Garden State Sikh Association – GSSA (Bridgewater Gurdwara), Bridgewater, NJ held their Blood Drive on Sunday June 18, 2017 with 26 volunteers registered and eventually 19 volunteers who were able to donate blood in order to spread the idea of love and universal brotherhood instead of hate and divisiveness in these trying times. Many key volunteers organized and ran the Blood Drive. S. Supreet Kaur has been the key lead in organizing along with others to regularly hold the Blood Drive in the past many years and making this year’s event a success. Many youngsters at the Bridgewater Gurdwara helped out by giving the blood donor volunteers, juice, water and snacks to hydrate them after they donated blood. Also there were a few youngsters who also volunteered to donate blood. The Central Jersey Blood Center of New Jersey was very satisfied with the great turnout. The organizer and the Gurdwara management must be commended on organizing the wonderful Blood Drive as it helps bring awareness about Sikh Americans and their general nature of reaching out to others in need.
