Annual Prize Distribution Function at GGSCW

Chandigarh: April 20, 2017. (PCP) Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organized the Annual Prize Distribution Function in the College on 20th April 2017. Sh. K.K. Jindal, IAS, Education Secretary, Chandigarh Administration was the Chief Guest for the occasion. College Principal Dr. Charanjeet Kaur Sohi presented the annual report of the college, highlighting the achievements of the students in academic, sports and cultural activities and delivered the welcome address. The function began with the recital of college shabad. The Chief Guest, Sh. K.K. Jindal in his speech congratulated the students on their achievements and wished them success in their future endeavors. He motivated the students for incessant hard work and commitment to be successful in every field of life. Total 385 prizes were given to students for their meritorious achievements in the fields of Academics, Cultural and Sports. Around 110 Students were given prizes in the field of Academics, 145 Students were given prizes in the field of Sports & 130 Students were given merit certificates and trophies for excellent achievements in Cultural activities. Trophies were also given to NSS volunteers and NCC cadets for their selfless service and dedicated work. Durga was adjudged the Best Overall NCC Navy Wing Cadet. Mansi Phogat was declared the Best Overall NCC Army Wing Cadet. Rashmi was declared the Best in Acting, Rakhi in Music Instrumental and Karanpal Kaur was declared as Best NSS Volunteer. Mandeep Kaur was awarded with Best in Folk Dance and Harpreet Kaur with Best in Fine Arts. Rehiana was declared as Best Speaker and also as the All Round Student in Arts Stream whereas Swati Bhalla, Gurkanwal and Tanisha were declared as All Round Students in Computer Science and Applications, Commerce and Science streams respectively. Parminder Kaur was declared as Best Outgoing Student in Arts stream and Karanpal Kaur as the Best Outgoing Student in Commerce stream. 36 Scholarships worth Rs.1, 01700 were given to needy and meritorious students. Shergill award and scholarship of Rs. 25,000 was given to Manjeet Kaur for her academic excellence. Many Sports Students participated in various National and All India Inter-University Tournaments in various games throughout the year. The College won 2nd position in Overall Championship in Punjab University, Chandigarh amongst 192 affiliated colleges. The College won 1st position in Swimming, Kho-Kho, Netball, 5 Side Hockey, Boxing and Tug of War in various Inter college competitions. Kanwalpreet Kaur was declared All-Rounder Best Sportswoman of the year. Monica was declared as Best Outgoing Student in Sports. Col. (Retd.) J.S. Bala (Secretary, Sikh Educational Society) extended vote of thanks and congratulated the Principal and Faculty members for the achievements of the students. He also encouraged the students to dream big and work hard towards their goal. S.Gurdev Singh Brar (President, Sikh Educational Society) and S. Kulbir Singh (Vice President, Sikh Educational Society) also graced the occasion with their presence.
