International Women Day celebrated at GGSCW

Chandigarh: March 8, 2017. (PCP) The Gender Champion’s Club of Guru Gobind Singh College for women, Sector-26, Chandigarh organized an event to celebrate the International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2017. Mrs. Asha Kumari Jaswal, Mayor, MC Chandigarh was Chief Guest for the event and The Guest of Honor was Dr. Shalini Marwaha, Chairperson, Dept. of Laws, PU. Mrs. Jaswal shared her views on Women empowerment and talked about the need for preserving values among today’s generation. Dr. Marwaha also encouraged the girls to be alert and update themselves in the Globalised world. She centered her talk on the Motto for the International Women’s Day 2017- “Be Bold for Change”. The girls of the College participated in competitions like Poster Making, On the Spot Photography, Slogan Writing, Rangoli Making and Face Painting with great enthusiasm. The Department of History also organised Paper Reading and Poetry Recitation Competition on the topic “Position of Women in the Contemporary Society to celebrate International Women’s Day. The purpose of this competition was to involve the students from different disciplines to present paper and express their views on the position of women in the contemporary society. Foreign students also presented papers related to status of women in Mauritius, Afghanistan and Iran. Poems in different Languages i.e Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu and English were recited, depicting many faces, attributes and issues related to women. This day also marked as a call to action for accelerating gender parity. The College Principal Dr Charanjeet Kaur Sohi delivered the Vote of Thanks and encouraged the girls to take initiatives to empower themselves.
