Chandigarh: November 18, 2016. (PCP) Science Fest (Scientia-2016) is a journey from Science to Innovative Technology is an annual event organized on 18th November, 2016 by Department of Physics, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh. Science Fest aims at introducing young students to a scientific environment and inculcating in them a desire to seek additional knowledge and skills in areas of their interest. Scientia-2016 signifies the power of sharing knowledge. The event is being organized by collective efforts of various Department of Sciences to nurture scientific temperament and creating awareness by sharing of ideas. The aim behind organizing this event was to provide a platform to the young citizens of our country for discussing scientific views and innovations on issues of global relevance. Major emphasis of this event is on the utilization of renewable sources of energy mainly solar energy to address the issues such as Global warming. Students of all Institutes within the campus showcase and demonstrate their innovative projects and ideas. The theme for the Fest Scientia-2016 was “Solar Energy-The way to Cleaner Future”. The event was sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, Chandigarh. The Fest included competitions like Tech Rangoli, Collage making, face painting, Cartooning, Power Point presentation, Poster presentation and Model presentation. Science is not a formal logic as it needs the free play of mind. Through this event, the college gave a platform to young minds from various schools and colleges to interact and discuss new ideas. The Chief Guest was Prof Keya Dharamvir, Professor (Retd.), Panjab University, who inaugurated the event and addressed the participants. She emphasized the need for energy conservation and highlighted the recent development in this sector. Around 100 students from the prominent schools of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali have represented their schools in various competitions on the topics “Solar Energy, Save Earth, Global Warming, Recent development in Science and Technology.” All the winners were felicitated by the Chief Guest and the Principal, Dr Charanjeet Kaur Sohi. While addressing the gathering Dr Charanjeet Kaur Sohi highlighted the need of more such events for popularization of Science among students. The Science fest 2016 was truly a crowd pulling event as about 200 people visited the campus and had an enriching experience of the different events under the umbrella of Science Fest. The entire campus was abuzz with activities on the day.
