Hyderabad: November 16, 2016. (PCP) Chairman Sindhi Sangat Sindh Mansoor Khaskheli has shown serious concerns over the continuous release of poisonous effluents from Punjab’s industries through Right Bank Outfall drain (RBOD) and Left Bank of drain (LBOD). Sindhi Sangat Sindh demands federal and provincial to take corrective and constructive steps to save millions of lives in Sindh. Central Chairman of the Sindhi Sangat Sindh Mansoor Khaskheli has said that the continuous release of poisonous effluents from Punjab’s industries into the RBOD and LBOD is spoiling rich agricultural land, forests and small towns and villages of upper and lower Sindh. The project, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank (WB) was additionally meant to carry industrial and municipal effluents from urban centers. However, due to numerous gaps in the design, operational, technical and monitoring dimensions, the drain has in fact been causing heavy damage from time to time. The sufferers include human populations, biodiversity and crops. According to the statistics in 2004 contaminated water of the RBOD was drained into Manchar lake, the largest lake of Asia and later drained into Indus river, resulting many deaths and hundreds of people, including women and children hospitalized in Hyderabad hospitals and another tragedy was happened in Badin when cyclone hit the 41-kilometre tidal link canal of the LBOD, which split open in 65 places and caused massive losses in Badin. The scale of the tragedy is underlined by the fact that 355 bodies of children and adults were pulled out of the mud. Central Chairman of the Sindhi Sangat Sindh Mansoor Khaskheli further said that the deterioration in the quality of groundwater due to the Right Bank Outfall drain (RBOD) and Left Bank Outfall drain (LBOD) which drain out the industrial and chemical waste in various upper and lower Sindh district needs immediate attention to avert the catastrophe. Sindhi Sangat Sindh demands federal and provincial to take corrective and constructive steps to save millions of lives in Sindh. Otherwise, millions of people will have to die premature deaths due to deterioration in the quality of groundwater in the upper and lower Sindh districts.
