Mandi Bahauddin: October 19, 2016. (Sher Gondal) Lawyers in Mandi Bahauddin on Wednesday protested against DBA President Nazir Salfi for calling off boycott of DSJ courts without consulting bar members. They raised slogans against him and said he was no more their president. DBA Vice President and Secretary were among the protesters. On last Friday it was lawyers strike to press demand for setting up LHC benches at division level and the DSJ Rana Nisar Ahmed started recording statements of prosecution witnesses in absence of defense lawyer. The president with another lawyer went to court and asked the judge to stop recording evidence. The judge did not accept their request and continued recording evidence and later acquitted the accused. The president considering he insulted, called general meeting of DBA where resolution was passed against the DSJ condemning him for misbehaving with the president. It was also resolved to boycott DSJ court till he apologies or transferred out. In the meantime lawyers’ group leaders intervened and settled the dispute between the president and DSJ. The president again called the meeting and informed about the settlement and announced calling off DSJ court boycott. This raised ire among the lawyers. They said the president and group leaders have misused the bar to influence the judges for ulterior motive. They demanded holding of fresh meeting to decide the issue according to bar rules.
