Declare Pakistan as state sponsor terrorism: A Bill submitted in US Congress

Washington DC: September 21, 2016. (PCP) Congressman Ted Poe of Texas, the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Terrorism, and Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, California, introduced the Pakistan State Sponsor of Terrorism Designation Act, in the US Congress, on Tuesday. The bill, if passed, would label Pakistan a sponsor of terrorism. “Not only is Pakistan an untrustworthy ally, Islamabad has also aided and abetted enemies of the United States for years. From harboring Osama bin Laden to its cozy relationship with the Haqqani network, there is more than enough evidence to determine whose side Pakistan is on in the War on Terror. And its not America’s,” Chairman Poe said in a statement. The bill requires the US President to issue a report within 90 days of passage. And, to elaborate on the issue by addressing whether or not Islamabad has been a supporter of international terrorism. Thirty days following the report, a follow-up report will be issued by the Secretary of State to either brand Pakistan a state sponsor of international terrorism or justify as to why Pakistan does not meet the legal criteria for designation, the statement said.India-US In a statement issued earlier, Poe condemned the attack and said that Pakistan has been irresponsible in controlling terrorist movements. And that India has been a bearer of Islamabad’s irresponsibly policies on terrorism. “This weekend’s attack on an Indian army base in the garrison town of Uri left 18 Indian soldiers dead and marked the deadliest assault in Indian-administered Kashmir in over two decades. It is a reminder to democracies the world over that terrorism seeks to destroy peace loving societies everywhere. It is still unclear which terrorist group carried out this cowardly attack, but one thing is certain.”
