Islamabad: August 29, 2016. (PCP) Brits travelling overseas are being urged to be Travel Aware, by the British High Commission in Islamabad. This month the Foreign and Commonwealth Office launched a new Travel Aware campaign. It encourages people to stay safe overseas by ensuring that they have travel insurance, are reading about local laws and customs on the Foreign Office travel advice pages, and using the foreign travel checklist at www.gov.uk/TravelAware.
Whilst Travel Aware provides general information, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office travel advice pages provide foreign travel advice specific to 225 countries and other areas around the world – including Pakistan. Readers can access the entry requirements, local laws and customs, and health and safety of their chosen destination. British nationals are advised to follow the FCO guidelines to remain safe, especially as ignoring Travel Advice can invalidate travel insurance.
For British nationals travelling to Pakistan, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office provides a list of areas that they advise against all travel to and areas where only essential travel should be taken.
Jon Ryan, the British Consul in Pakistan, who leads the team who help British nationals in Pakistan and Afghanistan when they are in trouble, said: “Travelling the world is a fantastic experience. As a tourist, traveller and diplomat, I have had the privilege to visit and live in many different countries, including here in Pakistan. When overseas most British nationals have a trouble-free experience, but sometimes things do go wrong. To prevent this happening, it is so important that people ensure they have travel insurance, valid passports and visas, and have read the Travel Aware and country-specific Travel Advice pages from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.”
“Every year, over 200,000 British citizen’s travel to Pakistan and the vast majority have a great time enjoying Pakistan’s natural beauty, amazing food and hospitable people. But every year, we do help several hundred people, and we know taking those simple steps can help keep people safe. In Pakistan, property disputes and forced marriage – for men and women – happen more than in many other countries.”
