Chandigarh: April 28, 2016. (PCP) Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, and Chandigarh organized the Annual Prize Distribution Function in the college on 28th April 2016. S. Balbir Singh Sr. (Hockey Olympian) was the Chief Guest S.Gurdev Singh Brar (President, Sikh Educational Society) delivered the welcome address and highlighted the achievements of the Chief Guest. College Principal Dr. Charanjeet Kaur Sohi presented the annual report of the college highlighting the achievements of the students in the academics, sports and cultural activities. The function began with the recital of college shabad. The Chief Guest, S. Balbir Singh in his speech congratulated the students on their achievements and wished them success in their future endeavors. He motivated the students for incessant hard work and commitment to be successful in every field of life.
Total 275 prizes were given to students for their meritorious achievements in the fields of Academics, Cultural and Sports. Around 80 Students were given prizes in the field of Academics, 120 Students were given prizes in the field of Sports & 75 Students were given merit certificates and trophies for excellent achievements in Cultural activities. Trophies were also given to NSS volunteers and NCC cadets for their selfless service and dedicated work. Harita (BA-III) was adjudged the Best Overall NCC Navy Wing Cadet. Priya Brar (B.A I) was declared the Best Overall NCC Army Wing Cadet.
Venus Rana (B.A-III) was awarded with Best All-Rounder Trophy and Sukriti Chaturvedi (M.COM II) was declared the Best Outgoing Student. Amarjit Kaur (B.A III) as Best Instrumentalist, Gurkanwal was Best Dancer, Hitakshi Ghosh (B.A II) Best in Home Science & Pooja Best in Fine Arts for their achievements.
34 Scholarships worth Rs.92, 000 were given to needy and meritorious students. A Special award and scholarship of Rs. 25,000 was given to Taranpreet Kaur Dhaliwal for her academic excellence.
More than 55 players participated in various National and All India Inter-University Tournaments in various games. Our College won Overall Championship in Punjab University, Chandigarh. Kirti was declared All-Rounder Best Sportswoman of the year. 16 College Colors were given to excellent sportswomen.
Col. (Retd.) J.S. Bala (Secretary, Sikh Educational Society) extended the vote of thanks and S. Kulbir Singh (Vice President, Sikh Educational Society) were also present on the occasion.
