Journalist demand protection after terrorist attacks

HYDERABAD: March 5, 2016. (By Abbas Kassar) Journalists of Hyderabad held protest demonstration to express their anger and concern on the terrorist attack on press club last day and also inaction of administration and police provide protection to journalists despite repeated calls made to police and district administration officers. The protest was attended by large number of journalists, photographers and cameramen who were chanting slogans against terrorists and against administration and police which failed to provide protection to them. Demanding arrest of culprits who were involved in attack on press club under guise of protest. They demanded compensation to injured journalists and the loss the press club suffered due to ransacking and burning of its furniture, record,etc. The protest was attended by senior journalists Ali Hassan, Lala Rehman Samo, Khalid Khokhar, president press club Jai Parkash, secretary Nasir Shaikh, vice president Farhan Effendi, Hamid Shaikh, Hameed Rehman, Junaid Khanzada, Abbas Kassar,Khalid Chandio, Ashok Sharma, Danish Nafees, Shiraz Bhatti, Nadeem Khawar, Haroon Arain and others. Later a journalist body of HPC was held which passed a resolution condemning terrorist attack on press club and demanded severe action against terrorists and protection to journalists. Meanwhile Sindh National Tehrik and other political and social parties and organizations have also condemned attack on press club and demanded arrest of terrorists involved in attack. They said religious parties workers cannot be allowed to commit such attacks to suppress the voice of media. It may be mentioned that last day religious parties under excuse of sympathy for hanged Mulla Mumtaz Qadri had attacked press club Hyderabad on the plea that media was giving more coverage to supporters of Qadri. The religious workers broke gate of press club ransacked and burnt record and furniture of press club and injured 8 journalists. Despite calls to police and administration officers no one turned to save journalists The Central Chairman Sindhi Sangat Sindh Mansoor Khaskheli has also strongly condemned attack on Hyderabad Press Club and demanded action against the involved culprits. In an issued Press Release Central Chairman of Sindhi Sangat Sindh Mansoor Khaskheli has strongly condemned attack on Hyderabad Press Club by the religious extremist goons. Attack on Hyderabad Press Club is deemed as attack on whole journalism and freedom of expression. Ransacking Hyderabad Press club is a shameful and highly condemnable act. Central Chairman Sindhi Sangat Sindh Mansoor Khaskheli further said growing religious extremism in Sindh is a threat to the Sufi Secular identification of Sindh. Sindhi Sangat Sindh expresses solidarity with Hyderabad Press Club and journalists and demands quick action against the culprits involved in Hyderabad Press Club attack.
