Two-Year-Old Christian Girl Killed as Family Home Collapses in Narowal Rains. Report by Juliet Chowdhry and Hannah Chowdhry

Pakistan: On 27th August, torrential rains caused the collapse of a Christian family’s home in Narowal, killing two-year-old Anaya Qaisar and leaving her cousins Shanaya (13) and Abeel (3) seriously injured.

Both families, already struggling financially, are now left homeless and scattered across neighbours’ houses.

BACA has visited the family to provide comfort, prayer, and immediate support, but the urgent need remains to rebuild their home.

£6,000 is needed to restore safe shelter, provide medical help, and bring hope to this grieving family.

On 27th August 2025, relentless torrential rains caused the collapse of a double-storey house in Christian Colony, Narowal. The tragedy claimed the life of two-year-old, Anaya Qaisar, and left several other family members seriously injured, now receiving hospital treatment.

Nasir Masih (35), a sanitary worker, lived on the ground floor with his wife Arooj Bibi (37) and their five children.

On the first floor lived the family of his late brother, Qaisar Masih—his widow Hina Qaisar (30) and their five children, including little Anaya (2 yrs), who tragically died in the collapse.

The home was poorly constructed, with wooden beams and mud roofing instead of reinforced concrete. Continuous heavy rain weakened the structure until the upper floor gave way, crashing onto the lower storey and burying both families beneath the rubble.

Nasir recalls the horrifying moment:

“I immediately rushed to my house. Alas! It was the debris of the fallen roof with my entire family underneath it. The neighbours had gathered and rescued my family. We called 1122, but the rescue team arrived after 30 minutes—by then, Anaya had already passed away.”

That evening, Anaya was laid to rest in the local graveyard, leaving her family heartbroken and in shock.

Injured Children in Hospital Care

Two of Anaya’s cousins remain in hospital with serious injuries:

Shanaya Nasir (13 yrs), a Grade 5 student, suffered a fractured leg along with head and facial injuries. After initial treatment in Narowal, she was transferred to Children Hospital Lahore for specialist care. Thankfully, brain scans showed no major damage, but she is still undergoing treatment for her broken leg.

Abeel Nasir (3 yrs) sustained a fractured thigh and is currently recovering from surgery at THQ Hospital, Narowal.

BACA’s team visited Shanaya and her parents in Lahore, prayed with them, and offered comfort as they faced their grief and uncertainty. We also paid for all their funeral costs.

Homeless and Scattered

The collapse left both families without shelter. With rains expected to continue until 9th September, they have been forced to take refuge in neighbours’ homes, separated from one another.

Nasir explained:

“Some live in one neighbour’s house, while some live in another’s. We have no home of our own anymore.”

Both families have pleaded for help to rebuild their home—a safe shelter where they can live together once more.

Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee of British Asian Christian Association, said:

“Anaya’s death has shaken us all. We pray that God will bring healing and restoration to her family, and with the support of our compassionate donors, we can rebuild their home and give them hope for the future.”
