New Delhi: The Celebration Committee shall be holding Accession Day of J&K with the Union of India on October 27, 2020 at the Press Club Auditorium, Jammu. The 73rd anniversary of the accession is being celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir. In the occupied territory of J&K including Gilgit-Baltistan, POK and other areas occupied by China have been communicated to celebrate the Accession Day. The then Maharaja Hari Singh of J&K signed the Instrument of Accession after midday at Karan Palace, Jammu in the presence of the Maharani and then Yuvraj Karan Singh who has driven on a personal motor car of Maharaja Hari Singh from Srinagar to Jammu Tawi. Maharaja was invited by the Union Govt. of India to reach Jammu from Srinagar in case he wanted a representative of Union of India to collect the signatures of the Maharaja on the Instrument of Accession.

In special flight the Secretary to the Govt. of India, Mr. V.P. Menon flew straight to Jammu to meet Maharaja Hari Singh. Mr. V.P. Menon, the then Secretary to the Govt. of India in the Ministry of the States under Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel reached Jammu in the evening of October 26, 1947. He carried the documents required by Maharaja Hari Singh to sign the Instrument of Accession. Maharaja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession handed over to Mr. V.P. Menon. Mr. V.P. Menon returned in his flight to Delhi but reached late and could not meet the then Governor-General Lord Mountbatten.

Lord Mountbatten signed the Instrument of Accession on October 27, 1947 by 8.30 in the morning India’s first Dakota flight carried the first battalion of Indian Army to Srinagar on the request of Maharaja Hari Singh to save Jammu and Kashmir from foreign aggression which was launched from the Pakistan side two days back.

The Instrument of Accession was signed by the then Governor-General, Lord Mountbatten and therefore it was October 27, 1947 when J&K acceded to the Union of India. That’s why the Panthers Party is celebrating October 27, 2020 as the 73rd Accession Day.

The Panthers Party has been organizing this day in Jammu and Kashmir and many other places in India for years to celebrate the Accession Day on October 27.

A Celebration Committee has been organized with Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia, former MLA in J&K and the President of JKNPP as the Convenor of 73rd Anniversary of the Accession. The Accession Day is being celebrated in Press Club Auditorium, 1st Floor, Jammu at 1.00 p.m. The entry shall be allowed only by entry passes as the attendance has to be limited under the present rule due to Covid-19. Some of the senior political leaders and statesmen shall address the gathering on the then, 1947, political situation and the situation today.
