Mandi Bahauddin: (Sher Gondal) Mandi Bahauddin is a backward district that has remained neglected by the successive governments with regard to the provision of education and health facilities. This was said by Malik Salauddin Advocate former Chairman Municipal Committee Mandi Bahauddin and The Executive Corporate Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and President 'SHATIK' (an NGO) Haji Abdul Hamid Bland in a joint statement.

They said roads, health, education, and irrigation infrastructure has broken down due to lack of maintenance and timely repairing. Main roads connecting with neighboring districts, lateral and farms to market roads are in depilated condition, and their surface has dismantled, pits are developed and are almost unfit for vehicular and horse-drawn carts.

Education and health facilities are not enough commiserating with public needs. Critical cases brought to hospitals are sent to main hospitals of Lahore or Islamabad; and most of the patients die en route. There is no university in the district.  Higher education is not accessible to students from financially weak families, as the universities are concentrated in Lahore and Islamabad.

The University of Engineering and Technology Rasul was sanctioned, and funds amounting to Rs two thousand million were allocated by the incumbent Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar. Out of this fund, only Rs one hundred million were released but that also was not spent on the project. No funds have been earmarked for the university in budget 2020 – 21; this is a big tragedy for the people of this area. Three years back Punjab Government announced the establishment of the Gujrat University Campus. Classes were started in District Jinnah Public School and College, the teaching staff was posted on an ad-hoc basis. No permanent staff has been posted as yet.

They lambasted local parliamentarians and district administration for their non-working and a lack of interest in solving public welfare matters and improving governance. They said cleanliness and encroachments and other civic matters galore in the city and Municipal administrators are inattentive about the problems being faced to the dwellers. They said the rulers’ decisions and announcements are not being implemented in a true spirit which has badly disappointed the public.
