Ali Hasan Zehri, whose original name is Ali Hassan Brohi, is from Nawabshah in Zardari’s home province of Sindh. His wife Samina Zehri, also from Sindh, was earlier made a Balochistan senator.The oath-taking of the newest member in the Balochistan cabinet with the backing of the powerful Inter-Services Intelligence has left people in the France-sized southwestern province seething in anger.
“Bringing land mafia, alleged drug lords & criminals in the parliament & leaving no space for real representatives, has dented the trust of Baloch from parliament & politics. Parties like PPP with establishment pushing Baloch youth towards no return,” one of Balochistan most famous journalist Shah Meer Baloch, who works for The Guardian, said on X.
The controversial man whose actual name is Ali Hassan Brohi in Sindh police records has now adopted the name Ali Hassan Zehri. He got the Zehri last name after bribing the Zehri tribal chief, Sardar Sanaullah, Zehri, who himself had killed his eldest brother, among many others with his own hands, but never got arrested.
The Guardian correspondent Shah Meer Baloch had tweeted six days earlier, “Ali Hassan Zehri, an alleged land grabber & a mafia, said to be the front man of Zardari has been declared winner of general election in recounting that he had lost from Bhootani with a huge margin. It shows what Balochistan means for PPP. Time 4 land grabbing in Balochistan?”
A former Pakistan military man-turned- human rights defender, U.K.-based Adil Raja had warned through a tweet that President Zardari was eyeing an unprecedented land grab in Balochistan that will also benefit the omnipotent army generals.
“Ali Hassan Brohi, a front man and an alleged land grabber for Zardari, has already started acquiring thousands of acres in Baluchistan. Your tax money will be used to irrigate Zardari's land, with the remainder being allocated for Army Generals. Things are progressing as planned,” Adil Raja had warned on X in July.
Some years back, the local authorities in Karachi had identified Ali Hassan Brohi has a notorious land grabber and posted a public announcement in an Urdu newspapers some years ago. Accusing him of grabbing 3,000 acres in Karachi.
The announcement was by the Deputy Commissioner, Karachi West. In Pakistan, the deputy commissioners are eyes and ears of the federal and provincial authorities and know the bad hats inside out. The announcement identifies Brohi as a resident of Defense Housing Authroty, originally from Nawabshah.
In a video, when he was in Karachi, Ali Hassan Brohi was heard threatening a citizen that he was linked with President Asif Ali Zardari, Sardar Zehri and former governor of Balochistan Lt. Ghulam Qadir Baloch and that he would butcher him and make him into fish meal in the waters of Sindh and Balochistan.
As the husband so the wife. Ali Hassan Brohi’s wife is also from .Sindh. Media reports say she was a party girl in the Defense Housing Society area and used to go by the name Senator Samina Mumtaz but has now added Zehri to it. It is clear the U.S. diplomats do not take due diligence when it comes to Balochistan and she was invited to an iftar party by Ambassador Donald Blome last year.
