Dr. Stephen Gill commends Major Nasir:: President Pervez Musharraf deserves credits, he says

I read the article of Major Timotheus Nasir “Take the Beam out of Your Eyes” with deep curiosity, because he discusses a social and political cancer in a way that is logical and to the point. His accurate portrait of the persistent malady of corruption at courts of Pakistan is eye-opening. Even Ms. Benazir Bhutto once said that blasphemy laws cannot work in Pakistan because any person can buy a false witness for even ten rupees.
President Pervez Musharraf has introduced democracy into a country that has not tasted it in real sense since its formation in 1947. He has been trying to introduce reforms at various levels, but certain elements do not let him introduce anything more worthwhile. He is now fighting against terrorism and unruly atmosphere in spite of the dangers he faces. He himself has been a target of these enemies of peace.
The citizens of Pakistan should identify first the enemies who are relentlessly attempting to divide the already divided nation into ethnic, religious, linguistic, geographical and other fragments. Those who divide further the already divided nation are the real enemies of peace and prosperity. At this time when the world is thinking of establishing colonies in far-off planets, these enemies of peace are dragging the nation into the middle ages. When the world is talking about globalization, these enemies of unity are disuniting the nation. They are displaying the vain hope of forcing the peaceful Christian minority of Charsada, Pakistan, to become Muslim within weeks. Christian nurses in Islamabad have been implicated in a false charge of blasphemy. Everyday there is news about brutal attacks and arrests of Christians in fabricated blasphemy cases. There are brutal attacks on the places of worship of minority sects within Islam. The people who are discovering new devices to terrorize minorities are the real enemies of peace, prosperity and unity because they are dividing the already divided nation.
Prosperity and peace go together. President Pervez Musharraf is doing his best to make Pakistan a safe country to bring more prosperity to a country where the bears of bloodshed are roaming in different shapes. He deserves credits for reforms. There is no doubt he is slow in introducing reforms, but he is helpless because of the unhealthy climate.
