On national and international forums such claims are made by the government that minorities enjoy religious freedom and equal basic democratic rights duly protected under constitution of Islamic republic of Pakistan but situation is entirely opposite to such announcements. The Bahawalpur Church carnage happened when all the international press was present in Pakistan to cover the Afghanistan war and the international media flashed the news of killing of 16 Christian worshipers in international press. The president of Pakistan assured the Christians the safety of life in future and immediate arrest of responsible for this massacre. As the arrests were made and local police rounded up dozens of militants in short time and claimed that main key militants shall be brought to justice, the elements of Jaish Mohammad and SSP were arrested from Karachi according to police sources who have fled for refuge here and it seemed that Punjab police is very active and sincere to punish criminals but the mysteries silence covered the weeks long enquiry and non of militant was presented before court of law up to this day.
It has been very clear that government is not serious about the constitutional guarantees provided to religious minorities in Pakistan. Administration is afraid of such Muslim militant groups and do not dare to arrest them. For incident the killing of Muslims in mosques is happening from years and different Muslim sectarian groups have been claiming responsibilities but not a single militant group members is arrested in such killings so for through out Country. The killing of Christians was the identical militant act and responsibility was claimed by Lashkar e Omer by fax to the newspapers and government was fully aware of the existence of Lashkar e Omar and presence in Bahawalpur but wanted to ignore the culprits. The demand of Christian community to arrest the killers of Bahawalpur church carnage is very genuine and very right therefore the immediate action is the only answer and proof of government claims.
