New Delhi: September 2, 2006. Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) expresses its shock and anguish at the brutal murder of five dalits in Haryana and six dalits in Jharkhand.

This is one of the most inhuman acts that have been carried out by the murderers in the name of religion and mighty majortitism. We deplore such acts, which make the lives of innocent and poor people miserable by taking away the members of the family who earn daily livelihood for the family. Five Dalits have been killed in Dulena in Jhajjar district of Haryana and six members of a Dalit Christian family was killed in Shivbigh village of Jharkhand on the festival day in the most inhuman way to subjugate the oppressed to surrender before the brutal power of the mighty "majoritinism " Five Dalits lynched to death for skinning cow, sacred to Hindus. They were skinning a dead cow. Police and local authorities looked on while extremists massacred and burned the victims. They were lynched to death by a furious mob for skinning a cow, traditionally held by Hindus to be sacred, while the police looked on. Five Dalits – Indian untouchables – met this fate at the police post of Dulena in Jhajjar district in the northern state of Haryana. The five outcasts, all aged under 20, were beaten to death and two were burned alive. Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC), engaged in the advocacy for Freedom of Faith and Dignity for all God`s creations urges for an immediate intervention of civil authorities as there is a fear that further alienation and terror on dalits will force them to wriggle out of the democratic frame work to other options. GCIC is deeply concerned about the increasing number of atrocities against Dalits and Christians in different state of India. The pattern of brutality and the failure of the constitutional bodies to uphold the rights of the oppressed people of India is ringing alarm bells. Global Council of Indian Christians(GCIC) urges Hon`ble President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to intervene to protect Dalits on a war footing. We also urge NHRC , Home ministry and other federal agencies to put their acts together to save the dalits .
