Councilor Pervaiz Stephen have requested for the safety of his life, family and property from the government of Pakistan. In a written letters to President Gen Pervaiz Musharraf, Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali, the Punjab governor, chief minister, the Chief Election Commissioner and inspector general of Punjab police complaining that he had been receiving threats from the supporters of the newly-elected Multan Nazim Riaz Hussain Qureshi for supporting one of his opponents in the elections. The councilor said he had filed a constitutional petition in the Lahore High Court against the district coordination officer and acting Nazim regarding the district Nazim's election. On July 13, he alleged, the supporters of Riaz Qureshi came to his house, harassed him and asked him to withdraw the petition. "They threatened to kill me and damage my property," he said in his letter. Meanwhile, the coordinator of Pattan Development Organization, a non-governmental body, Sarwar Bari, has also written a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan complaining that "harassment and intimidation" played a key role in the Multan district Nazim election. He alleged that three persons, including MPA Moeen Qureshi, the son of Riaz Qureshi, threatened the minority councilor, who was also working as a driver in the organization, to withdraw the petition or be ready for "dire consequences". He urged the CEC, the NRB and the Punjab government to take notice of the situation and provide protection to the people.
