Ahmedabad, June 7: (PTI) A team of National Commission for Minorities (NCM) will visit Ahmedabad on Saturday for a first hand observation of the situation in Gujarat in the wake of complaints by the minority community.

Christian activists have alleged that the Gujarat government is carrying out a survey of Christians to justify the passing of a new anti-conversion bill called the Freedom of Religion "The Commission has been approached by various members of the minority community regarding the problems faced by them. Therefore, we are going to Ahmedabad to assess the situation ourselves," said Tarlochan Singh, chairman of the NCM. This would be the Commission;s first visit to Gujarat after the assembly elections last year. Christian and Muslim activists will submit memorandums to Tarlochan Singh listing the way minorities have been treated in the past year. They have also criticized him for his position on the VHP. Singh had earlier said that the VHP's trishul diksha is a religious act. "After meeting the minority community representatives, the Members are also expected to meet Chief Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him of the feedback the Commission receives," the NCM chairman said.
