Three girls, aged between 6 and 16, died on the same day of the attack while a fourth succumbed to her injuries on Thursday. Meanwhile, the police hierarchy in Sialkot and Gujranwala has ordered the suspension of three policemen over their failure to protect the United Presbyterian church in Chianwali village. A station house officer and two of his aides were charged with dereliction of duty. Apparently, the SHO and his men flouted official orders to extend protection to 15 "sensitive" Christian places of worship in the province where attacks were apprehended. Two of the churches deemed vulnerable by police authorities were not provided security on Christmas Day. Earlier, the police had defended the lack of security cover in Chianwali by saying that they had not been informed of an evening service there. They also claimed that law-enforcement officers were present there during the midnight and morning services.
