Peshawar. November 29. Akram Khan Durrani, the newly elect Chief Minster of North West Frontier Province NWFP near borders of Afghanistan, as the leader of the house of MMA, The Muttahida Majlis-I-Amal, the component of six Islamic parties, emerged a

CM, Akram Durrani was elected from the southern district of Bannu of NWFP on the candidature of MMA. The Bannu is the district where hand grenades were thrown on the local church only few weeks before the elections of Mr. Durrani and church building was damaged by this terrorist attacks. The MMA success in the election 2002 has been viewed on the stance against the attacks to curb terrorism in Afghanistan by the allied forces when these religious parties in the bordering provinces of NWFP and Balouchistan of Pakistan organized large protest rallies. Since 1947, the independence of Pakistan, the 2002 elections were most fruitful for the religious parties under banner of MMA to capture the third biggest position in the National Assembly of Pakistan. The MMA have nominated two Christians members in the national assembly of Pakistan on the reserved seats allocated to MMA on proportional to their secured seats in the house when Muslim League Q adopted 2 Christians and PPP took one Christian out of 10 reserved seats for the minorities. Its strange the in the NWFP house there is no Christian member to voice the Christian perception on implementation of Islamic Laws in this province when Christians have been persecuted under Islamic laws in Pakistan and attacks on life and property were witnessed in Peshawar University and other areas of Province on the Christians during MMA campaigns against allied forces attacks in Afghanistan. After winning Mr Durrani said he would work for the betterment of the people who were pinning great hopes in this House for the solution of their longstanding problems. "I am a follower of late Maulana Mufti Mahmood, who made some historic decisions for the rights of the people. I will cooperate with the federal government to get our due rights from the center. But I will not hesitate in rendering resignation, if it comes to the crunch, in this House", he added. As the CM vowed to follow the Late Chief of JUI Mufti Mahmood, its on record that Mufti Government was led by the ANP and JUI collation in NWFP after 1971 election and ANP was the liberal democratic political party led by Khan Abul Wali Khan when ANP is sitting on opposition benches in the present house.
