New York. November 3, 2002. Mr. Nazir s Bhatti, Chief of Pakistan Christian Congress expressed grave concern on new Sindh assembly without the Christian representatives for the first time in the history of Pakistan. He said the millions of Christians

Mr. Nazir s Bhatti said that Joint elections were never in favor on Christians and Christians liked the separate election system and demanded the dual voting rights to elect their own representation and to cast their votes for Muslim candidates in respective constituencies in the parliament elections. He said that demand of joint elections was motivated by the tools of some Muslim political parties and Christian elements unable to reach in assembly by the Christian voters. Mr. Bhatti said that in the! 973 constitution Christians have the 6 seats in the national assembly when there are 5 Christians selected on the same number of 10 reserved seats in election 2002 and there is no representation in the Sindh Assembly at all. Mr. Nazir s Bhatti said that Christians of Pakistan reject this selection on minority-reserved seats and demanded the election on these seats. He added that joint elections have been planned to end the voice of Christians in the democratic institutions of Pakistan and role of government is deplorable on increasing the reserved seats for women but neglecting the minorities in Pakistan. Mr. Nazir s Bhatti demanded the government to increase in the number of seats for the minorities up to 30 in the National Assembly of Pakistan as the women seats have been increased from 20 to 60 in the present house. He rejected these elections under joint election system and termed it as selection by the Muslim political parties and demanded the elections on 30 seats under separate election system to provide the chance to elect the minority candidates by the minority voters and dual voting rights. Mr. Nazir S Bhatti condemned the role of PPP in Sindh to neglect the Christian representation in Assembly.
