Its very surprising move by the NCCP to step up to the Supreme Courts of Pakistan on this election issue when in past this body never dared to file any lawsuit or constitutional petition in the higher courts of Pakistan to repeal the Blasphemy laws or other discriminatory laws. The religious leaders like Rt. Rev. Muno Rumal Shah, Peshawar Diocese have been very active on international forums against the blasphemy laws and Secretary general on NCCP Rt. Rev Samuel Robert Azariah Raiwind Diocese have been very eager to issue press notes in national and international press on Christians issues but always neglected to use the social funds to go on legal fights through the higher courts in Pakistan. The recent miscellaneous application in Supreme court seems to be on the directions of their masters in Muslim political groups on whose intimation these leaders moved against separate elections and in demand of joint elections for minorities. Now very surprisingly these NCCP leaders are moving against the joint elections in the Supreme Courts in J. Salik petition. According to press release today the NCCP contends in their petition that the fresh election law had badly affected the rights of the minorities. The law had created an embargo on minority candidates, inspiring for the election, not to participate in the elections as the only mode available for a candidate is to join a political party: whether or not his ideology, aims and objects are in consonance with the political party. Thus the barring of non-Muslims to contest election as independent candidates in unjustified, illegal and volatile of the constitutional provisions. The new law curtails the rights of the voters of the minorities. Many independent candidates having been elected on the general seats in the Assemblies are representing a large section of minorities. While the reserved seats are only for the political parties. Resultantly the will of large section of the minority voters shall be ignored, while distributing the reserved seats among the political parties only. The National Council of Churches in Pakistan, a representative of Christian minority, looks after, safeguards the interests and rights of the Christian community at large is aggrieved of the fresh amendments in the election law, the application says.
