Karachi: September 22, 2012. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC has condemned target killing of former minority member of Sindh Assembly Malik Atta.

Malik Atta was elected member of Sindh Assembly on reserve seat for Ahmadiyya minority in 1987 from Karachi. Ahmadiyya Muslim sect was declared non-Muslim in Pakistan under 4th Amendment in constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan of 1973, during PPP government headed by ZA Bhutto. In national general elections of 1985, military government of dictator Zia-Ul-Haq, announced reserved seats for Ahmadiyya minority also in parliament along with other religious minorities in Pakistan. Under blasphemy law Sections of 298 A and B PPC, Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Pakistan was barred to write Quran Verses on gates of their Mosques and Islamic greetings on letters or ceremonial invitation cards during Zia-Ul-Haq regime. There were hundreds of arrests of Ahmadiyya community members under Islamic laws after their declaration as non-Muslims in Pakistan. PCC Chief Nazir Bhatti said “Target Killing of Ahmadiyya leader Malik Atta in Karachi is failure of Sindh government to provide adequate security to religious minorities in Sindh’ The series of target killing of religious minorities activists in Karachi and particularly of Christians in Essa Nagri in months of August-September 2012 was at peak when 6 Christians are targeted and gunned down while target killing of Ahmadiyya businessmen and doctors in interior Sindh ways back to years. Nazir Bhatti said that Malik Atta was a dedicated community leader and able parliamentarian but it sad that his fellow Muslim parliamentarians who shared seats in house with him are reluctant to issue condolence message in media on fear of Islamists who are targeting Christians and Ahmadiyya in Karachi and other parts of Pakistan. Dr. Nazir S Bhatti urged Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat Alabad to arrest killers of Malik Atta to ensure justice with religious minorities in Pakistan.
