Karachi: September 3, 2011. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC said in a statement released from PCC Central Secretariat that allocation of 4 seats in Senate of Pakistan for religious minorities under 18th Amendmen

The 4 seats reserved for minorities in Senate of Pakistan are not proportional to population nor will it be direct representation of minorities because Muslim political parties will select them and impose them on Christians, Hindus, Ahmadi, Parsi and Sikhs. There were total of hundred seats in Senate of Pakistan which were on equal representation to all four provinces of Pakistan while FATA and Capital administered area were allotted 8 and four seats respectively. Nazir Bhatti said that 14 general seats and 4 reserved seats for Technocrats and Islamic clerics and 4 more reserved seats for Muslim women which total 22 seats from every province is unfair representation. “Why Muslim political parties not increase general seats and give tickets to Muslim women, technocrats and Islamic clerics and increase seats for minorities?” said Nazir Bhatti Nazir Bhatti added “These 4 reserved seats for minorities will also benefit Muslims not Christians, Ahmadi or Hindus” PCC Chief clarified that there is no representation of Christians and Ahmadi Muslims from Capital territory nor from FATA and it is not clear that how these seats will be distributed among religious communities. “It is feared that Muslim political parties will demand millions of rupees from wealthy minority personals to fill these 4 Senate seats as rumors surfaced that Muslim political parties collected one million repress to select minority seat in National Assembly of Pakistan after 2008 national general elections” said Nazir Bhatti Nazir Bhatti alleged that PPP nominated 2 Hindus from Sindh in Senate of Pakistan on general seats after donations of 10 million rupees on each seat as appeared in section of press while Pakistan Muslim League (N) collected one million rupee donations from one Christian in Punjab and from one Hindu from Sindh. It was among inner circle of Christians quoting family members of Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti that rupee one million was paid to one PPP central committee member for his selection as member of National Assembly of Pakistan. Nazir Bhatti said that selection on reserved seats in Senate of Pakistan or National Assembly of Pakistan or Provincial Assemblies are undemocratic and cannot be free and transparent. Nazir Bhatti demanded Election on reserved seats for minorities in Provincial Assemblies, National Assembly of Pakistan and Senate of Pakistan instead of selection by Muslim political groups. “The reserved seats for minorities may be increased proportional to population in democratic institutions and reserved seats for Technocrats, Muslim women and Islamic clerics may be abolished from Senate of Pakistan to prevail true spirit of democracy in Pakistan” said Nazir Bhatti
