Pope urges action for Somalia humanitarian crisis

Castelgandolfo: July 17, 2011. (AGI) The Pope today called for the international community to act on the Horn of Africa humanitarian crisis.

During the course of Sunday prayer at his summer residence in Castelgandolfo, Benedict XVI spoke of his "profound concern" at news of "severe droughts in the region, especially in Somalia" followed, in some areas "by heavy rainfall". The events, the Pope clarified are "leading to a humanitarian catastrophe, with thousands fleeing famine in search of food and aid."
