The Christians of Gujranwala city feared attacks of Muslims after Friday Prayers on April 22, 2011 and April 29, 2011, when tension was high after arrest of Two Christians under blasphemy law on April 16, 2011, when torn pages of Quran were found in street in front of their home. Gujranwala city remained home of more than fifty thousand Christians where relation among two religious communities were never strained till blasphemy law was not enforced. One Christian from Gujranwala e-Mailed, a Pastor in UK, and expressed situation as “ Dear friends, with deep sorrow and heavy heart I am informing you that this morning a mob attacked Christian population in Gujranwal, particularly, Aziz Colony. All Community is under siege and cannot even get out of their houses. Police and civil authorities are trying to control the situation but it seems to be out of control. Christian community have been living under terror since April 15 when some pages of Quran were found partly burned and allegedly a letter written in the language that was offensive to the prophet of Islam. We have had sleepless nights and have worked tirelessly to control the situation but ultimately this has happened. Yesterday, there was a great danger of violence but it was largely calm. At the end of the day we thanked God for the seemingly calm situation. Today early in the morning there was again an incident of Quran being found burned. Then mob gathered and attacked Christians. Police used tear gas and shot some rounds in air as there was intense firing from the mob. Lives and properties of thousands of Christians in Gujranwala are in grave danger. Seminary and other Christians institutions are also prime target. Please pray for us” One other e-Mail to PCP, reads as “brother, lots of Christian families are affected surrounding this area( in Aziz colony). Every one have fled from this location and have moved to safe places. If you can contact the human rights organization, please do something as soon as possible to solve this problem so they can come back to their homes and live their lives peacefully and continue their work without a worry. We are praying” The police is patrolling the area to prevent further attack on Christians in Gujranwala. The Police have also registered a case and arrested 25 persons from Christians and Muslims to turn attack on Christians as Riots among two communities.
