The Christian leaders of All India Christian Association joined Pakistan Movement on assurances of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah that Separate Electorate will be given to Christians in Pakistan that they may elect their representation proportional to their population in Parliament. Nazir Bhatti said “Power hungry Muslim Feudal Lords and Pakistani Establishment have scratched true Ideology of Pakistan and declared it Islamic Republic of Pakistan as Homeland of Muslims only and abolished Election of Christians on Reserved Christian seats and imposed Selection to end their voice in Pakistan” The Pakistani Christian enjoyed Election on their seats after formation of Pakistan in 1947, when Christian voters were voting for their candidates. The Election of Christian representation was practiced till 1956, and after 1958 Basic Democracy it remained same. There were Christian Prayers offered by elected Christian Members of National Assembly under Separate Electorate system from 1985-2000, but it is ironic that Prayers for Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti were objected in National Assembly of Pakistan by all Muslim members in House after imposition of Selection system under Joint Electorate in 2002, by a military ruler Parvez Mushrraf. “If Christians had election on reserved seats for minorities then non of Muslim members have dared to deny offering of prayers for Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti in National Assembly of Pakistan” added Nazir Bhatti Nazir Bhatti clarified that some Christian tools of establishment of Pakistan and so-called Christian leaders in Muslim parties misled International Community that Separate Electorate is root cause of blasphemy law in Pakistan and if Joint Electorate is supported then Muslim members in House will vote to repeal blasphemy law and Christian will be back in mainstream politics in Pakistan. “I invite attention of International community that after imposition of Selection system of Christians on reserved seats under Joint Electorate, the violence on pretext to blasphemy have risen 200% and Christian representation is reduced in Parliament because Muslim political groups are empowered to pick or select in this system who prefer to select wealthy Hindus who donate millions to Muslim leaders. Therefore, we appeal International Community to press upon government of Pakistan to restore our right to elect our representation with our votes in a true democratic way” said Nazir Bhatti The PCC Chief said that Dual Voting Right is only solution to issues of 20 million Pakistani Christians that they may Elect representatives by their votes and may also vote for candidates of Muslim parties in their respective constituencies. Nazir Bhatti said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party PPP assured Pakistan Christian Congress PCC delegation in a meeting in Bilawal House, Karachi, that she will give Dual Voting Right to minorities and she issued media statement which is on record. “It is surprising that PPP government in Pakistan have not legislated Dual Voting right for minorities in 18th Amendment in constitution leaving behind agenda of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto” said Dr. Nazir Bhatti After assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti, there are Two Christians in National Assembly of Pakistan, one from PML(Q) and other from PML(N) while PPP have no Christian on their quota of 4 seats. There were 6 Christians in National Assembly of Pakistan during 1973-1977, when Pakistan Peoples Party PPP was governing Pakistan under leadership of Shaheed Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto. There were 4 seats reserved for Christians from 1985-2000, under Separate Electorate when Christians were Elected by Christian voters but there are 2 Christians in National Assembly of Pakistan after Selection under Joint Electorates since 2002.
