London. May 8, 2002. (CLASS) Aslam Masih has been sentenced to death and fine by the session courts. Aslam Masih was arrested under section 295 B&C of PPC, accused of blasphemy, on December 2, 1998, in Mamum Kanjun, Toba Tek Singh. He was beaten seve

Aslam Masih is confined in Central Jail Faisalabad where Mr. Nasir Saeed, coordinator CLAAS, UK, met him one year ago during his visit to Pakistan. Today on 7 May 2002, at 11:00 AM he appeared in the court of Additional and Sessions Judge Mian Safdar Saleem. The Additional Session Judge Mian Safdar Saleem awarded Aslam Masih two life imprisonment sentences and a One Lakh Rupee fine. If he fails to pay the fine he faces two more years in imprisonment. There is a seven days time limit to appeal against the decision and CLAAS will file an appeal in the High Court against the judgement of Additional and Sessions Court, and hope that High Court may acquit Aslam Masih from the said charge.
