ICC in a communication to Christian well-wisher in US, working on this census issue of Christians in Pakistan confirmed after their independent sources in Pakistan said that "Here is the response we got from our contacts in Pakistan:" "This information is not correct and based on exaggeration. According to realistic analysis the census carried out in 1997, population of Pakistan is more than 1,14 million. The population of religious minorities' i.e. Christians, Hindus, Parses, Sikh, Buddhists and others is about 14milliom. Christians being the biggest minority are 8million and 7% of entire population of Pakistan. This is not the government or official figure rather based on some churches survey. The claim of Mr.Nazir Bhatti of Christian Congress is not authenticated and does not match the facts. He even mentioned that no census has been carried out since 1981, which is not correct, as in 1987 government of Pakistan conducted the census." Mr. Bhatti said that census was conducted in 1991, which was later declared as null and void by the government of Pakistan and 1998 census were rejected by the provinces of smaller population in Pakistan. 1998 census results issued and appeared on July 10 1998 in national press were termed as pre-fixed exercise to maintain the status quo in the distribution of national resources, representation in legislative institutes and electoral boundaries by the leaders of Sindh and Balouchistan. Mr. Batty said that census in Pakistan have been designed to uphold the interests of Punjab province and interests of communities have been ignored and never received the attention on the population planners in the state. He said that issue of Christian statistics is issue of survival of Pakistani Christians. Mr. Nzir Bhatti added that soon PCC should issue white paper on Christian's population figures in Pakistan to reveal the facts and for record. He invited all the human rights and religious organizations around the world to take interest in this very important issue because we believe that it can be milestone to resolve their issues in Pakistan.
