The Election Commission's announcement allowing the independent to join a political party if they wanted to have say in the election of 70 seats reserved for women (60) and minorities (10) makes the electoral process not only bizarre but corrupt for the 70 members as the persons contesting on reserved seats for women and non-Muslims will be elected through proportional representation system of political parties lists of candidates on the basis of total number of general seats won by each political party in the provincial assembly. Thus the process of election will become merely 'selection' by the large political especially for minorities as the candidates did not get the chance to contest on general seat as their nominee, and now getting 'selected' will have a price tag paid to the political party, hence promoting corruption and 'horse-trading' environment in the parliament. Also, a political party securing less than five per cent of the total number of general seats in the National Assembly will not be entitled to any reserved seat for women or non-Muslims. This will only pave way for the political parties with large number to select candidates thus eliminating small political parties of equal representation. Moreover, the bar regarding the reserved seats for minorities that they could not contest the election on the reserved seats for minorities except when they were enlisted members of a political party and their names figured in the party list makes the credibility of the election dependent on the large political parties say. These recent amendments to the election laws have deprived the minorities and women of their rights of representation whereby any citizen could contest for reserved seats as an independent candidate. Minorities resented the electoral process because women had the right to contest for general seats and also for special seats, why could not this rule be extended to them as they stood little chance to win any general seat in a country whose 96.5 per cent population comprised of the Muslims.
