Dear Editor, Brutal murder of Salmaan Taseer was a shocking and tragic incidence. But some of religious groups celebrated the murder and applauded the assassin as hero. A group of advocates showered him with flower petals and announced free legal aid during his trial. Qazi Hussain Ahmed a prominent leader of Islami Jamat in a statement justified the murder while some other religious leaders said that Salmaan Taseer was himself responsible for his murder. The religious leaders also asked the people not to mourn the death and express sympathy. They further warned that any one mourning the death will meet the same end. Qadri was part of police guard who instead of protecting killed his boss that is treason and breach of trust. May I ask these religious leaders whether treason and breach of trust is allowed by Islam? Secondly the religious leaders blame Salmaan Taseer for terming blasphemy laws as black laws. These blasphemy laws were made during the regime of a dictator. May I ask them whether terming man made laws as black law is an offence warranting extra judicial killing? May I ask the mullahs whether sympathizing with poor Asia, the victim of manmade blasphemy laws is a crime? In my opinion applauding Qadri accused is tantamount to applauding a traitor, murderer who breached the trust. Any one applauding a murderer after taking law in hand is not doing any service to Islam. Rather these leaders are accused of committing blasphemy. However Maulana Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi condemned the killing of Taseer, saying the law was man-made and not divine. "It is the product of extremism and fanaticism which is damaging for an Islamic society," said Ashrafi. This shows blasphemy laws are controversial and they need revisiting for review and appropriate amendments so that people may not misuse them for settling their own secures and enmities.
