In the Name of Allah, the Merciful and the Beneficent Dear Editor, Nazir Bhatti sahib, Pakistan Christian post Peace be on you, I am writing this letter to you about the blasphemy laws in Pakistan. I fully agree with you that there are no blasphemy laws in Quran or Hadith ( sayings of Prophet Muhammad) or Sunnah ( action of the Holy Prophet). As you know that all the Prophets of God Almighty faced blasphemy in their lives daily. People cursed them but prophets return to them with prayer . People of Abraham put him in fire, but God saved him and he prayed for his people's forgiveness of their sins and continue to exhort to them. Noah did the same. Moses ( PBUH) was subject to daily humiliation at the hands of pharaoh but he only gave him warnings of God's punishment. Moses himself never punished him, eventually when time came God himself punished pharaoh. Jesus Christ (PBUH) suffered at the hands of bad people and eventually they put him on the cross. But Jesus’ teaching is that if some body slap you on your one cheek, offer other cheek rather than taking revenge. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was brutally persecuted at the hands of Mecca’s and other people, but he never took revenge or gave any mal treatment to his opponents for his own sake. Once he visited Taif city to preach about God, and His message. After listening to his message, people started abusing him and the vagabonds of the area followed him in the street and threw stones at him to the point that he got severely injured and his shoes become filled with blood. The angel appeared and asked the Prophet if he wants, he can crush these people in between 2 mountains. But he forbade the angel to do so and the answer was that these people don't know me now, some day same people will believe in me. It came true when the whole Taif city came in the fold of Islam with their own will . Do these religious scholars know what was the revenge of thirteen years of persecution and blasphemous behavior of Mecca’s at the time of Victory of Mecca, yes it was " No blame shall lie on you this day; may Allah forgive you! And He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy" ( 12:93). These are just few examples from the lives of the prophets. These laws are not based on any of the God's Scriptures including Quran, Bible or Torah. Quran do tell those who persecute the Prophets and his followers that God himself will take revenge from them and He does. These are inventions of Zia ul Haq who was the worst dictator of all. He made these laws to oppress the innocent human beings that did not agree with him. If it would have possible he could have made a law to kill any body who opposes his agenda of oppression. But all the elected governments who came after him have equal share because they failed to do their job by repealing the laws made by the dictator. No body has any right to play or act God. No body has right to say if I am a Muslim or non Muslim. No body has any right to dictate a state run faith to any individuals. As a member of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, I strongly condemn the arrest and constant harassment of Christians and Ahmadies and other minorities under these laws. I fully support your appeal to this parliament and the government of Pakistan to repeal these laws immediately and release all innocent people who are in jail due to these notorious laws. For the sake of humanity, for the sake of 5 innocent children, for the sake of Christmas, the government should release Asia bibi immediately as a gesture of goodwill to the Christian Community of the country who laid their lives for this country's honor and defense. sincerely, Jari Khan Texas, USA
